Function and Application of Minoxidil

Minoxidil, chemically named 6- (1-piperidyl) -2,4-pyrimidine diamine, 3-oxide, is a white or white crystalline powder.Slightly dissolved in ethanol, microdissolved in trichloromethane or water, extremely slightly dissolved in acetone; dissolved in glacic acetic acid.Clinically, as a potassium channel opening agent, it can directly relax the vascular smooth muscle, and has a strong arteriolar expansion effect, which makes the peripheral resistance and blood pressure decline, but has no effect on the volume of blood vessels, so it can promote venous reflux.At the same time, due to the reflex regulation and positive frequency effect, the cardiac output and heart rate can increase, but do not cause postural hypotension.

USE

Minoxidil is divided into two kinds, one is 2% concentration and the other is 5% concentration. What's the difference and how to choose? Studies have shown that if minoxidil is used for 6 months, there is little difference between the effective rates of 2% and 5% for grade 2 hair loss, but the difference between 2% and 5% for grade 3 hair loss is huge. The results can show that if the hair loss is not serious, 2% can be used, and 5% minoxidil will have better effect for severe hair loss.

In large clinical trials of continuous treatment with 5% minoxidil local solution, the duration of hair regeneration did not exceed 48 weeks. In clinical studies mainly targeting white men aged 18-49 with moderate hair loss, 5% minoxidil local solution provided more hair regeneration than 2% minoxidil local solution. 5% minoxidil local solution is suitable for men with sparse hair on the top of the scalp. Does not apply to forehead baldness or receding hairline.

How Minoxidil works

Minoxidil is a potassium channel opener. Its vasodilation action expands the blood vessels to promote blood flow, thereby decreasing blood pressure to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Effect
